Please link to DR. This week's SOD and SOW each feature an interview with Molly Burnett. This week, Melanie is on a date with Nathan at the pub, but he has to leave because he's called back to the hospital. He asks Melanie to wait an hour for him. However, as she's waiting, Philip walks in. Molly Burnett tells SOW, "when Philip enters a room, Melanie always gets butterflies in her stomach." However, since "Melanie is trying to be true to herself and Stephanie", she ignores Philip. Melanie soon realizes, however, that Philip has been drinking. Philip asks Melanie to go for a drive with him, so she ends up driving him to the Horton cabin, because he tells her he left his watch there. As soon as they get there, Philip tells Melanie that there's always been something between them. Melanie tells Philip that she's on a date and they need to leave, but, as Burnett says, "He kisses her, and she doesn't know what to do. He kisses her again and it's super hot. Philip picks Melanie up and puts her on the counter. It's excellent." Melanie stops and tells Philip that they can't do this. She knows Nathan will be back at the pub soon. Melanie takes the ferry back, and when she gets back to the pub, her hair is messed up. Stephanie thinks that Melanie just slept with Philip, and Stephanie calls Melanie a slut. Melanie slaps Stephanie. Brady breaks things up and gets Melanie and Stephanie to talk to each other. Melanie explains things and Stephanie apologizes. SOW asks Burnett if Melanie and Steph are friends now. Burnett says, "They're frenemies. They're cordial to each other and hang out a little bit, but there's always going to be tension there because of Max, France and everything that happened." |

They drive to the Horton cabin? Seriously? Why have people been taking the ferry if you can drive to it? |

Melanie slaps Stephanie. Best part of the whole thing ... :D Although, (even though I don't like the age difference) I'm looking forward to the "super hot" kiss between Phillip and Melanie because they do have some serious chemistry. |

Philip sucking face with a teenager. There's something I wouldn't want to miss. :eyeroll: Meanwhile, can Melanie do a little more than slap Stephanie? Like maybe push her off a bridge? |

:roflol: :roflol: So true. You know, as much as the cabin seems to move around (it's accessible; it's not accessible; it's remote; it's not remote) are we sure it's really not the Horton Trailer? |

I and many others do (although clearly not that many on this board). Glad the kiss seems to be one sided. Really shows how far Melanie has come. |

Because for some reason, teh show heavily promotes Melanie. I don't get it. I don't understand it. And just the imagery makes me want to barf it up. And as we've said before, Melanie is only 1-2 years older then Will and gang (because she is a teenager). That's where she belongs. |

I like Melanie. I just feel that she's being forced in scenes and stories with people much older than her. Brady, Arianna and Philip should not be hanging out or interacting with Melanie the way they are. They're older than her. It wasn't so bad when Melanie was interacting with Nick, Chelsea, Max and Stephanie. That made sense. I would much rather see Melanie with the younger crowd since there's no one really in her age group anymore, well besides Nathan. Perhaps they should bring on another girl in her early 20s to form a triangle between Melanie and Nathan because I don't want to see a Melanie/Nathan/Stephanie/Philip quadrangle.

I like Melanie a lot. I think Molly is fantastic, and I don't think she looks 18. I don't think an 18 y/o should be paired with 30-somethings, but I don't think Phillip looks 30-something either. I love her friendship with Brady, it kind of reminds me a little bit of the Sami and Jack friendship. |

I donīt agree with this. (no surprise :D ) I donīt think she is forced into these scenes. I believe TPTB noticed how she is interacting with these people in RL and decided to use it on screen. I mean, I scan her twitter sometime and the way she is writing back and forth with EM, AZ, GG, NB, BB and just about everyone is downright amazing. I would never be able to interact with people twice my age that way. Itīs not forced, itīs not scripted, itīs really how Molly is and they are just using it onscreen and thatīs IMO why itīs work, because I doubt any sane writer would make her Bradyīs best friend and love adviser if the chemistry wasnīt already there in RL. As for the Mel/Nathan/Steph/Phillip triangle I think itīs a smart move. People are always saying letīs bring someone here and someone there but itīs really hard for the show to include all these new people. And have them only as isolated characters for the particular story/triangle almost never works. Thatīs why I think the show dropped the idea to use Owen/Owenīs twin as a thirdparty for Steph/Phillip. I realy liked the chemistry between Shelley and the actor who played Owen, but what the show would do with him besides putting him with Steph and Phillip? If they went with the idea there would be two separated stories, Steph/Phillip/Owen and Nathan/Melanie. Itīs much better to keep things tight as possible and play the story just with the four already on scene. Itīs better for us, because we already know all the participants. Itīs better for writers because there is already a lot of background which can be adressed. And of course, itīs better for producers because they donīt have to pay more extras/recurring players to play two separate stories. Nathan and Mel immediatelly get something to play about and itīs making the things much more interesting than if he and Mel just flirted and eventually fell for each other with no conflict in sight. With Steph and Nathan they can finally step down from all the drama and show Steph too can be smiling, funny and careless and not so uptight all the time. Poor Shelley had one heavy drama story after another and if her friendship with Nathan helps to backtrack her a little back into the Stephanie she was when she first arrived on the show, it will help her character a lot. As for Phillip and Melanie, well, I know what majority people here thinks about them, but itīs not like this is some new, experimental pairing Dena is famous for. They first screen tested them back in October last year and their story seemed to be all over in April, so that they are going there again IMO has to mean it worked and the reactions were majorly positive. I think what Tomlin is attempting to do is create the same kind of tight group which can be played for years like JER managed with Austin/Carrie/Sami and Austin. Itīs smart move IMO and with all the actors having chemistry together itīs definitely one of the stories Iīm looking forward in fall. Edited by jane1978, Jul 15 2009, 03:11 PM.

True. Unfortunately it also shows how far Phillip has fallen. What a mess he is these days. |

And to just be consistent, I blame Melanie for his hair too. He's trying to look younger so no one wil accuse him of a felony while hanging with a teenager! :D |

I agree with virtually your entire post, wanted to add in RL she hangs out with FT and I think she's 29 yo. I'm disappointed with the Owen thing. I thought it was a little strange they hired a new actor to play the funeral director during Grace's death. I thought they would have tried to weave Owen, his twin and/or his father that way. oh well. Tripp, lol about the hair comment. Not too much of a stretch considering they tried to make EJ look older when they paired him up with Nicole. Love your avatar...Nick..sigh. |
